VISION & MISSION
Vision
To be an effective community from where sisters emerge in providing health care to the surrounding villages, and works towards the total development of people, showing the mercy of God through compassion love and service.
Mission
The Sisters coming from different culture and language live together working and praying while deepening in the faith and love of God. They help one another to follow Jesus Christ more closely and present the Gospel to the people through home visits, pastoral work, helping the exploited women and children, lepers, care of Children in Balwadis and alleviate the sickness of the suffering humanity.
HISTORY
The Community began in the Government hospital venue in 1950 doing good to all. From 1962 to 1968 the convent was annexed to St.Josph’s Convent (Nirmalarani Convent) but the sisters continued to work in the GH Karaikal. Again 1968-1972 the sisters went back to reside in hospital premises. In 1972 as the hospital authorities wanted the sisters living quarters they were forced to look for a place to have a Convent, for this purpose a paddy field in Puduthurai was purchased and construction of the community began there as already the dispensary was running for lepers since one year.
The Community was inaugurated on 15th July 1972 under the able guidance of Late Sr.Gerogina. In the beginning our pioneer Sisters had to work hard to bring up the mission. they carried out various ministries such as Pastoral work, Formation of the orphans, working hard in the paddy fields, Care of the lepers, Maternity care,MCH Programme,Conducting Balwadis, Community Development work, Small Saving Scheme,Madhar Sangam,Rural Textile centre, Goat rearing Scheme etc for the development of the poor and upliftment of surrounding villages. At present the community cater to the needs of the neighbouring villages through health care, pastoral work, socio economic development activities such as tailoring centers, care of the lepers, sponsorship programme for widows and children, care of the children from 2 to 5 years in Balwadis and helping in the education of deserving children. We also have paddy field, vegetable garden and cattle to meet our everyday needs.
VALUES
The patient always comes first; we are dedicated to patient care and treat them with respect and dignity. We provide care that is safe, effective and accessible so that our patient who comes to our hospital return, having received the best possible compassionate care.Puduthurai village is in the district of Karaikal with a mixed population of all religion, class and caste. We are also surrounded by many neighbouring villages with economically and socially backward people. Our mission is to cater to the needs of this section of society . In order to carry out this mission we are engaged in health care and socio developmental activities .
SOCIO DEVELOPEMENT ACTIVITIES






Pastoral work
One of the original visions of our community was to care for the patients affected with Hansen’s disease. We continue to keep alive this vision by caring for 15 of this kind of patients. In addition to the sum of Rs: 1,19,440 given by the ministry of St. Francis Leprosy Guild, London towards the upliftment of these people, we help them out with extra expenses from our income to meet their needs.
Tailoring Centers
We have 2 tailoring centres ,one here in the centre and the other in a village called kilinchal medu. There are 50 to 55 young women from neighboring village profit from it, and It Is run free of cost. They learn tailoring, hand work, fashion designing and machine embroidery. To mark the ending the students exhibited their talents in the form of dance and drama as well as the exhibition of their performance.
Balwadis
“Children are not things to be molded but are people to be enfolded “ (Jess Lair). We have the happiness of caring for toddlers aged between 2-5 yrs around 58 of them in one centre and 27 in another center. They are run by the help of Social Welfare board. They are introduced into different learning program in order to prepare them for schooling and to enable the poor parents to go for work and earn their livelihood.
Education
Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizen. So we take keen interest in the education of children. We encourage them, so that they may come out in flying colors. There are 26 children studying in different classes and in different schools whom we helped by giving Rs.1,11,000/ for school fees, uniform and tuition fees.
Farm and Field
Farming is a profession of hope, if you tickle the earth with hoe, she laughs with a harvest. Our field gave us a plentiful harvest this year. We are grateful to God for His mercy and blessings through the inflow of cauvery water and rainfalls at the appropriate time. Vegetables are cultivated with organic manure. We cultivate Vegetables like, beans, ladies finger, brinjal, maze etc.
Navajeevan
Navajeen center for differently abled kids
